Our client is a specialist cloud and software engineering consultancy that helps organisations modernise how they build, deploy and operate software. Working across both public and private sectors, they partner closely with engineering teams to reduce technical debt, improve developer experience, and deliver resilient, scalable systems using modern engineering practices.

How you’ll spend your day

As a Senior Java / React Full Stack Developer contractor, you’ll work as a hands-on engineering consultant within a solutions engineering environment, supporting the modernisation of large, complex software systems.

You’ll collaborate closely with client engineering teams, platform engineers and testers to reduce technical debt, improve delivery speed, and introduce modern engineering practices. Reporting into a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll play a key role in influencing how software is designed, built and evolved.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Designing and delivering modern Java / React applications within complex, enterprise-scale systems
• Supporting the breakdown of monolithic architectures into well-defined microservices
• Applying Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles to improve system clarity and maintainability
• Improving development workflows, testing strategies and overall developer productivity
• Collaborating with platform and test engineers to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Supporting teams in adopting modern tooling and AI-assisted development approaches
• Acting as a senior consultant on delivery teams, guiding technical decisions and best practice

What you’ll bring to this role

This role suits an experienced, hands-on full stack engineer who enjoys working on complex systems and influencing delivery through both technical expertise and consultancy skills.

You’ll bring:

• Strong experience with React and modern front-end development
• Strong backend development experience using Java / Spring (MongoDB experience beneficial)
• A solid grounding in Domain Driven Design (DDD)
• Experience delivering microservice-based architectures
• Full-stack awareness and the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines
• Confidence working directly with clients and influencing technical direction
• An interest in, or experience with, AI-assisted development to improve code quality and delivery speed

Java / Spring, React, HTML / CSS / XML, MongoDB, Playwright, Docker, Kubernetes, Maven, GitLab
