Our client is a specialist cloud and software engineering consultancy that helps organisations modernise how they build, deploy and operate software. Working across both public and private sectors, they partner closely with engineering teams to reduce technical debt, improve developer experience, and deliver resilient, scalable systems using modern engineering practices.

How you’ll spend your day
As a Senior Software Developer in Test Contractor, you’ll work as a hands-on quality engineering consultant, helping teams modernise how quality is built into Java and React-based applications.
You’ll focus on evolving test strategy and architecture – moving teams away from brittle, heavyweight end-to-end testing towards more effective integration, functional and contract testing approaches. Working closely with developers and platform engineers, and reporting into a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll act as a testing authority within delivery teams.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Designing and implementing modern automated test strategies for Java and React applications
- Migrating legacy test suites to Playwright-based approaches
- Reducing reliance on slow end-to-end tests by introducing better integration and functional testing
- Implementing and promoting contract testing to improve service reliability
- Embedding quality earlier in the software delivery lifecycle through close collaboration with developers
- Using AI-assisted testing techniques to improve coverage, efficiency and test quality
- Acting as a quality advocate and trusted testing authority within client-facing delivery teams
What you’ll bring to this role
This role is ideal for a senior test engineer who thinks like a developer and understands how quality should be engineered into modern software systems — not added at the end.
You’ll bring:
- Strong hands-on experience testing Java and React applications
- Deep knowledge of automated UI testing and modern test tooling
- Experience designing test architecture and strategy, not just writing tests
- A strong understanding of BDD and collaborative ways of working with development teams
- Hands-on experience with contract testing (e.g. Pact)
- Confidence modernising legacy testing approaches and tooling
- Excellent communication skills and comfort working in client-facing, consultative environments
