How you’ll spend your day

As a Principal Solutions Architect, you’ll operate as a senior technical authority, leading solution design and technical strategy across large, complex digital transformation programmes. This role spans both pre-sales and delivery, with responsibility for shaping compelling, commercially viable solutions and ensuring they transition seamlessly into execution.

You’ll work closely with business development, delivery, and engineering teams, acting as a bridge between technical capability and customer outcomes. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll influence strategy while remaining deeply involved in solution creation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading solution architecture and technical strategy for large, complex pursuits and programmes
  • Defining technical win themes, differentiators, and innovation strategies
  • Shaping opportunities from early engagement through bid, award, and transition to delivery
  • Designing scalable, secure, and extensible architectures leveraging cloud, AI, data, and digital platforms
  • Incorporating reusable capabilities, accelerators, and reference architectures to drive differentiation
  • Owning technical responses for RFI, RFP, and RFQ submissions, including solution narratives and whitepapers
  • Driving competitive analysis, estimation approaches, and pricing alignment
  • Leading solution reviews with senior stakeholders, executives, and subject matter experts
  • Acting as chief engineer during delivery, ensuring solutions are implementable, operationally sound, and commercially viable
  • Collaborating across technical, security, operations, and delivery teams to ensure end-to-end alignment
  • Mentoring and developing other solution architects and senior technologists
  • Presenting solution concepts, architectures, and cost models to technical and non-technical audiences

What you’ll bring to this role

You’ll be an experienced Principal-level Solutions Architect with a proven track record of shaping and delivering large-scale, high-value solutions. You combine deep technical expertise with strong commercial awareness and exceptional stakeholder engagement skills.

You’ll bring:

  • Deep, hands-on understanding of modern cloud platforms, including AI and data-driven solutions
  • Proven experience creating winning solutions for large, complex bids and programmes (typically £20m–£200m+)
  • Strong experience across multiple enterprise technologies such as CRM, case management, contact centre platforms, and cloud services
  • Confidence leading architecture and capability modelling sessions with business, vendor, and technology stakeholders
  • Strong commercial acumen, including pricing models, estimation techniques, and cost realism
  • Experience supporting managed services, IT services, and software development engagements
  • Ability to translate customer needs and journeys into robust, executable solution architectures
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence senior technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A collaborative leadership style, comfortable mentoring teams and working across functions and time zones
  • An agile, adaptable approach to problem-solving in fast-paced, high-stakes environments
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • A genuine curiosity for emerging technology and continuous learning

Desirable experience includes:

  • Secure-by-design architecture and experience in regulated or compliance-heavy environments
  • Supporting bid-level challenge and competitive review exercises
  • Knowledge of security, monitoring, performance, and SLA frameworks
  • Experience championing inclusive, ethical, and responsible technology delivery
  • A passion for presenting, thought leadership, or speaking at industry events
